UK proposes wider ban on destructive ocean bottom trawling

The UK is proposing a wider ban on destructive bottom trawling to protect marine life and habitats. The ban would expand from 18,000km2 to 48,000km2 of UK offshore areas, subject to a 12-week industry consultation. The move follows warnings from Sir David Attenborough and aligns with the goal to protect a third of international waters by 2030 at the UN Ocean Conference.
