Thousands of drivers wrongly fined for speeding since 2021
Published: 12/16/2025

National Highways has identified 2,650 wrongful speed camera activations on English A roads and motorways since 2021, leading to potential cancellation of fines for affected drivers. The delays between cameras and variable speed signs caused some drivers to be incorrectly fined for speeding. National Highways is working to rectify the issue and will contact impacted drivers to reimburse fines and remove any points from their licenses. Not all camera activations result in fines, and the organization assures drivers to continue observing speed limits as usual.
