Scotland given same credit rating as UK ahead of first bonds issue
Published: 11/13/2025

Scotland, preparing to issue its first financial bonds, has received the same credit rating as the UK from Moody's and S&P Global. The credit ratings are rated Aa3 and AA, respectively, reflecting Scotland's stable economy and fiscal management. The government plans to use the bonds to finance infrastructure projects and may offer better value for money and flexibility. However, there are warnings that the ratings could be downgraded if Scotland moves towards independence.
