How much is the winter fuel payment and who will get it?

Around nine million pensioners in England and Wales are set to receive the winter fuel payment, worth up to £300, following a government U-turn on eligibility criteria. Previously, the payment was limited to those on low incomes, causing over nine million older people to miss out. The reversal means that 75% of pensioners will receive the payment for winter 2025, with the rules changing again in Scotland. Pensioners above state pension age who earn £35,000 or less annually will now qualify for the payment, while those above this income threshold will see it deducted from their tax bills.
